This Graflex Speed Graphic 4x5 is a large format press camera that was made by the American camera manufacturer Graflex for over 60 years. This model has a spring back and a side-mounted rangefinder. The Speed Graphic has a built-in focal plane shutter capable of shooting at 1/1000th of a second.
The Aero Ektar 7 inch f2.5 lens was made by Kodak during WWII for aerial reconnaissance missions: it would have been mounted to a camera pointed down out of military aircraft to photograph towns, landscapes, and enemy targets. In modern times, the Aero Ektar is highly sought after by portrait photographers due to its impressive "swirly" quality and interesting and pronounced bokeh, as well as its impressive max aperture of 2.5. Since this lens does not have a shutter, however, photographers who shoot modern film stocks are very limited in their usage of barrel lenses, and often will need to buy a Speed Graphic camera just to use these beautiful lenses with the focal plane shutter. For optimal use, however, modifications must be made to the body gate in order to accommodate such a heavy and large lens.
